about

For the record, I've never actually had a night even remotely resembling the one in "Mick Jagger Said It's Okay." I don't drink, I don't gamble - heck, I've never actually been to Atlantic City! - and you're more likely to find me at night volunteering at a library book sale than catch me "living to the limit" at some party, so the storyline in this one is pure fiction, I hate to say. I am a big Stones fan, though - incidentally, to all you Mick and Keith fans out there, keep your eye out in the lyric for the passing reference to "It's Only Rock'n'Roll (But I Like It)" - and had actually written a completely different song - a reggae song, believe it or not! - with the same title back in my teens that was an homage to the greatest live bands of the rock'n'roll era, the Stones obviously being one of those bands. I never thought the song was anywhere near as good as the title, though, and felt that the title demanded a more "out of control" storyline. I'd revisit it from time to time, but nothing ever wanted to gel, and I could never seem to fix it to my liking. So when Brian came to me a few years back with an instrumental demo of a raucous uptempo rocker he'd been working on but hadn't yet come up with any lyrics for, I instantly knew that I had found the perfect rhythm track for the party anthem that "Mick Jagger" should have been all along, and the lyric subsequently came together in a little under a half-hour, so a big thank-you goes out to Brian for finally curing my many years of writer's block on this one! - Jeff
